"China and the International Financial System". Conference co-organised by the Banque de France, European Central Bank and CEPII

The Banque de France, ECB and CEPII are jointly organizing a conference on "China and the International Financial System".

In recent years, China has considerably expanded its international financial reach. Its financial system has undergone deep transformation. After bouncing back quickly from the coronavirus crisis, China now appears ready to take on the challenges that climate change and new technologies pose to its development model and to financial stability. But beyond the official communication, what is China’s real capacity, what are its ambitions, and what are the limits and constraints on it as a global financial power? What will China’s place be in the international monetary system of tomorrow and in the global financial architecture?

This one-day workshop aims to bring together researchers, experts and policymakers to present their work on China’s role in the international financial system. It will feature a keynote lecture, a panel discussion and two to three paper sessions. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • China’s increasing role in the international financial system;
  • China’s financial sector innovations and related risks for domestic and global financial stability;
  • China’s green finance initiatives to achieve carbon neutrality and its implication for financial sector transformation and growth.

All presentations will be in plenary sessions.

Organising committee: Camille Macaire (Banque de France), Clément Marsilli (Banque de France), Martino Ricci (ECB) and Thomas Grjebine (CEPII).
