Is there a "European model" of social security?

    The European welfare states as they evolved after the second World War differed widely. Social policy specialists still debate (indeed, this is one of the favourite topics for debate) to how many types they belong, and how should one label these types. G. Esping-Andersen identified three types of welfare regime in his seminal and widely quoted book, namely the 'liberal', the 'conservative-corporatist', and the 'liberal socialist' types.
