Yvan Decreux is a graduate of France's leading engineering school (Ecole Polytechnique) and holds a PhD on "The analysis of the impact of trade liberalisation on the remuneration of production factors in Tunisia", directed by Christian Morrison. He is a researcher with the CEPII.

Previously, Yvan Decreux worked at the DIAL, a research centre in development economics and undertook a number of training courses on computable general equilibrium modelling at the IIAP, between 1999 and 2000.
