Guillaume Gaulier est chercheur associé au CEPII.

Docteur en économie de l'Université Paris I (Panthéon-Sorbonne), il a rédigé sa thèse sur « Intégration économique et convergences réelles », sous la direction de Pierre-Yves Hénin.

Il est économiste à la Direction de la Balance des Paiements de la Banque de France, en charge de l'analyse des échanges de biens de la France et de la zone Euro.

Ses recherches portent sur la spécialisation commerciale ainsi que sur les comparaisons internationales. Il est à l'origine avecSoledad Zignagode la base BACI, qu'il a utilisé dans des travaux portant notamment sur l'insertion internationale de la Chine, la mesure des prix du commerce international ou celle des échanges intrabranches. Ses travaux de comparaisons internationales portent aussi bien sur les productivités dans l'industrie que sur les niveaux de vie englobant des composantes non monétaires (espérance de vie, risque de chômage, etc.).
