“US Trade Policy: Before, During, and After Trump” with Chad P. Bown, Reginald Jones Senior Fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics

Chad P. Bown
Reginald Jones Senior Fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics and former senior economist for international trade and investment in the White House on the Council of Economic Advisers under the previous administration
US trade policy has been highly confrontational since the Trump administration took office, using a variety of instruments, several of them very unusual and disruptive, and shaking the foundations of the world trading system. Many of the underlying tensions actually pre-date the present administration, and might last well after its term, but these issues have taken unusual salience in recent months.

Chad P. Bown will discuss what is at stake and what the present policies may lead to. The discussion will span a wide array of issues, linked to US trade relationships with China, the European Union, NAFTA partners as well as the multilateral trading system.
